AGCS Africa CEO recognized for exceptional leadership

Non-profit organization, the Broad Pool of Ideas (BPI) Foundation recognized Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Africa CEO, Thusang Mahlangu, with the Future Leader Award on August 2, 2019, at their inaugural Iconic Leadership Excellence Awards held at Midrand Conference Centre. The award recognized Thusang as an outstanding leader and a trendsetter of his generation based on his professional accomplishments and the ethical leadership he has demonstrated in his career to date.

CEO of AGCS Africa since February 2017, under his leadership, the business achieved 28.9% percent growth in gross written premium between 2017 and 2018. The company settled 3095 claims during the same period valued at R359 million to enable medium and large companies in Africa to continue growing.

AGCS Africa has also strengthened the impact it makes within its community with a focus on youth and education. The Allianz Maths & Science Center, which was launched in 2018, empowered Diepdale Secondary School in Soweto to improve their matric pass rate from 58.9% in 2017 to 80.4% last year. The Allianz Explorer Camp | Football Edition enables youngsters between the ages of 14 and 16 to spend a week in Munich, Germany to develop their leadership skills through on and off the pitch activities, which include meeting FC Bayern stars, training with youth coaches and deliberating on future topics.

Thusang is a board member of the South African Insurance Association (SAIA). He is also a member of the prestigious Young President’s Organization (YPO), which is a global network of young chief executives across 130 countries. He joined AGCS Africa in 2013 as Head of Market Management and subsequently became Head of Property in 2014 and grew the portfolio in key African countries. An MBA graduate from Milpark Business School in South Africa, Thusang has over 20 years of experience in insurance and risk management.

Thusang Mahlangu said: “I am honored to be recognized by the BPI Foundation as a Future Leader in their inaugural award ceremony.
