Allianz AGCS Strengthens Global Aviation Team with Three Key Appointments

Key appointments to the Global, Regional Unit London (RUL) and North America teams reinforce the ‘One Aviation’ strategy to provide integrated products and services to the Aviation industry across the globe.

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) announced today that London-based Matthew Farrell will assume a new global role as Global Aviation Executive. Tom Fadden will take on the role of Regional Head of Aviation for the Regional Unit London with immediate effect. He also retains his current role as Global Airline Product Leader, part of the Chief Underwriting Office.  Mike Hansen has been named Regional Head of Aviation for North America. He will be based in Toronto.

In his new global role, Matthew will be responsible for developing leading business solutions and driving AGCS strategy externally with core brokers and clients across all regions globally. He will report directly to Henning Haagen, Global Head of Aviation.

Previously, Matthew served as Regional Head of Aviation, Allianz AGCS London for 10 years. He joined Allianz AGCS in 2004 as an Airline underwriting manager. Prior to joining Allianz, he was a Senior Underwriter at Global Aerospace and also held a number of roles at Willis Group within the Aviation division spanning 20 years.

Tom Fadden will be responsible for leading the Aviation business in RUL and supporting the global ‘One Aviation’ approach in addition to his role as Global Airline Product Leader CUO. He will report to Carsten Scheffel, Chief Regions & Markets Officer and Member of the Board of Management and Brian Kirwan, AGCS UK Chief Executive Officer, with a matrix reporting line to Henning Haagen, Global Head of Aviation.

Tom has been with Allianz for 12 years in a variety of aviation roles including: Senior Airline Underwriter; Airline Underwriting Manager and Global Airline Product Leader responsible for airline portfolio strategy and steering globally. With nearly 30 years of Aviation insurance experience, Tom joined British Aviation Insurance Group/Global Aerospace where he held roles as Product Underwriter and Senior Airline Underwriter.

Mike will be responsible for leading the Aviation business in North America and developing and executing on the regional strategy and supporting the global ‘One Aviation’ approach. He will report to John Barnwell, Regional Head Specialty Lines with a matrix reporting line to Henning Haagen, Global Head of Aviation.

Mike joins Allianz with more than 33 years in the Aviation insurance industry and possesses a wide range of both broking and underwriting experience. Most recently he was Deputy Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) at XL Catlin Aerospace where he worked closely with the Global CUO to manage the global underwriting team, develop the strategic underwriting plan and lead the development of the combined Reinsurance program.  Mike’s career with Catlin spanned nearly 13 years during which he held senior management positions including Business Group Leader, Aviation Global Product Leader and President and CEO of Catlin Canada HUB. He worked in both London and Canada. Prior to joining Catlin, he held underwriting positions at AIG and Markel. He began his career as an Aviation Broker at C E Heath & Leslie & Godwin.
