Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty appoints new Global Head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management

  • Hyeji Kang, currently Head of Actuarial Function, is appointed AGCS Global Head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management as of October 1, 2019.
  • Current Global Head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management, Bernhard Arbogast, to retire in May 2020.

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS), the corporate insurance carrier of Allianz Group, announces the appointment of Hyeji Kang as Global Head of Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management effective October 1, 2019. She will succeed Bernhard Arbogast, who will retire at the end of May 2020, and will report to Chief Financial Officer Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre. Ms Kang is currently Head of Actuarial Function based in Munich and prior to that she was Chief Actuary for the AGCS North American region. She will work together with Mr Arbogast over the coming months to ensure a smooth handover. Her successor will be announced at a later date.

Hyeji Kang

Ms Kang joined the AGCS Chicago office in 2015 as Chief Actuary for North America. In 2018 she moved to Munich as Head of Actuarial Function. Prior to joining AGCS she held various consulting and in-house positions in PwC, CNA Insurance and Willis Towers Watson. Hyeji holds a degree in Economics from the Seoul National University.

Mr Arbogast will retire after more than 25 years of service at Allianz. He joined Allianz Group as a Reinsurance Underwriter at Allianz AG in 1987. After eight years working for Allianz he moved to Zurich Financial Services as Group Chief Actuary. In 2003 he came back to Allianz as Chief Financial Officer at Allianz Risk Transfer AG and from 2007 until now he has held the position of Chief Portfolio Officer at Allianz Risk Transfer AG. Since 2016 he has been also leading the AGCS Global Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management team.

He will support Ms Kang for a handover period on his AGCS Reinsurance and Catastrophe Risk Management responsibilities up to the end of December 2019, at which point he will step down from the Allianz Risk Transfer AG Executive Board, until he fully retires from Allianz Risk Transfer AG at the end of May 2020.
