Normally, AGCS risk engineers identify exposures and recommend solutions to businesses through onsite assessments, but what if they can’t access the premises or want to reach multiple global locations in a fast, cost-efficient way? Increasingly, insurers are using new tools such as  MirrorMe, an app-free solution that simplifies photo and video capture to allow risk experts to remotely review and assess premises. Whether it is evaluating potential damage from wildfires around a property or reviewing exposures in a warehouse, it can all be done easily – in a snap!

Imagine receiving a remote wildfire assessment of defensible space around your building after taking a video and having a telephone interview with a risk consultant.

Or needing a review of all of your retail locations – even more than several hundred – potentially assessing an entire risk portfolio.

Or wanting to quickly assess and issue clearances for one or several marine cargo shipments, greatly simplifying the process.

With MirrorMe, a new, app-free tool accessible by mobile, tablet, laptop or desktop, companies can share images of facilities and operations or browse a library of risk mitigation materials – all without having anyone visit their facility, especially convenient in the challenging coronavirus environment by reducing the introduction of outside people into a location for sanitation purposes.

Automated self-service workflows using customized guided recordings containing detailed instructions and examples for capturing industry-specific risks – such as fire prevention for warehouses or slips and falls for retailers – are developed in close collaboration with the customer providing detailed instructions and examples of things to capture with photos or videos. The tool offers a real-time loss control service experience safely, virtually and instantly, allowing risk engineers to review exposures and gather information with up-to-date and accurate location data and offer recommendations.

“MirrorMe provides an excellent way for AGCS customers to collaborate with risk consultants remotely,” says Maarten van der Zwaag, Global Head of Property Risk Consulting at AGCS. “It is a great cost-efficient addition to our regular onsite risk assessments. These guided self-assessments can be organized quickly and are relatively simple to execute. They allow scaling up assessments and support swift decision-making.”

To date, risk consultants have completed more than 1,500 MirrorMe workflow tests for development and training purposes, with over 100 successful live surveys fulfilled.

MirrorMe offers a real-time loss control service experience safely, virtually and instantly.

With MirrorMe, customers provide a telephone number and email address to a risk consultant and receive a link via text message for telephones or email for tablets. Once the platform is launched, clicking on the “Get Started” button accesses a list of tasks and begins the customized questionnaire prepared for their facility or facilities.

For example, a warehousing manager might be asked to provide photos or videos of any or all of the following potential risk locations in their building: the exterior perimeter of the building and entrance area; the roof of the building, if safely accessible; the inside storage area and other areas mentioned in the pre-call with the risk consultant; the warehouse and office area ceilings; the main electrical room or main electrical feed; the sprinkler riser along with each sprinkler’s design placard; the fire pump and design placard; spare sprinkler heads with opened boxes; fire control panels and other boxes; and any special hazards.

The customer selects each task and follows the instructions on the screen to provide photos or videos to the risk consultant. There is no limit to the number of photos or videos that can be submitted – but a minimum number is clearly communicated with each question.

Once the task is complete, they go to the next task and so on until a “Thank You” message appears, to indicate the process is complete. Each question includes instructions on exactly what aspect of the facility or operations require photo documentation, in some cases with examples to help guide them through the process.

As each question or task is completed, a green check mark indicates that a task is completed and no further information is required.  When all assigned tasks are completed, the system notifies the risk engineer to begin their analysis, grading and benchmarking relevant risk categories and gathering risk information on all of a company’s exposures with up-to-date and accurate location data. The remote survey could include offering recommendations during a follow-up telephone interview. The platform can also be used following an onsite survey to show that recommended risk improvements have been satisfied by the customer.

MirrorMe allows customers to involve certain members of their organization who have expertise in the questions being asked or the documentation being requested – not always possible during an onsite visit from a risk consultant, as key members of the company may be traveling or unavailable.

The MirrorMe platform was built to ensure the highest levels of data security and leverages a world-wide content delivery network to ensure high performance and reliability, even in geographically remote locations. It is built on a cloud-based platform with encrypted data communication. The tool and data storage system fully comply with strict AGCS security standards.

“MirrorMe is extremely safe and provides seamless virtual connectivity in a secure and scalable environment,” says van der Zwaag. “It’s also easy to use, which instantly provides us with all the data we need to make fast, reasonable and transparent risk assessments in a fraction of the time and at a minimum of effort compared to traditional surveys.”

“No tool will ever fully replace an in-person visitation. But when travel is not feasible, or to extend the scope and frequencies of our risk consulting activities, remote surveying capabilities will be key,” he adds.
